Aditya Banerjee's 'A Poet's Ballad: A Crossword Mystery' unfolds against the vibrant background of 1980 in a captivating and charming story. As Mahesh and Aarvi unravel enigmatic crossword puzzles meticulously laid out by the departed Professor Devesh Tripathi, the story follows their journey. It is amazing how crossword puzzles serve as a narrative tool, captivating readers and sustaining their interest. For enthusiasts of cryptic crosswords, the intricate clues and their resolutions offer a satisfying intellectual indulgence.
The Author skillfully portrays the internal struggles that Mahesh and Aarvi must navigate. Mahesh is entangled in the conflict between pursuing his dreams and succumbing to parental pressures. On the other hand, Aarvi confronts the imminent possibility of an arranged marriage and the anxiety of abandoning her passion for literature.
While this is a suspense thriller, I will not reveal any spoilers, so let's move onto the other parts of the review. It evolves into a heartwarming and nostalgic chronicle, appealing to readers who enjoy cosy mysteries, crossword puzzles, and narratives of personal growth. The characters are relatable and charming, and the development of their relationship introduces a heartwarming aspect to the storyline. Banerjee's skilful storytelling and meticulous attention to detail make this novel a satisfying and highly recommended read.
The language is lucid and easily understandable, even for novice readers. The narration is consistently flawless and engaging as always. Despite the book's length of around 370 pages, it maintains a brisk pace, making it a fast-paced read. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all readers.
