The story follows Millie, a young woman trying to rebuild her life after spending ten years in prison. Living out of her car and desperate for a fresh start, she answers an online advertisement for a housekeeper position. Soon, she’s called in for an interview by Nina Winchester — the sophisticated yet unpredictable wife of a wealthy man, living in a sprawling mansion. Millie presents herself as experienced and skilled with children and pets, although she knows her past might come back to haunt her if Nina checks her background. To her surprise, Nina offered the job — a live-in position that involves managing household chores, cooking meals, and picking up their nine-year-old daughter, Cecelia, from school.
Life inside the Winchester home, however, turns out to be far from easy. Nina, prone to mood swings, makes Millie’s days difficult, leaving chaos in her wake and never seeming satisfied. Cecelia is a spoiled, ill-mannered child, and only Andrew, Nina’s husband, appears somewhat kind and composed. Millie, aware she desperately needs this job, keeps her head down — but soon realises there’s far more going on in that house than meets the eye.

Without revealing too much of the suspense, the novel captivates from the very beginning. The writing is lucid and immersive, the narration flows seamlessly, and the pacing keeps readers thoroughly engaged till the final page. Each character is well-developed and contributes meaningfully to the unfolding tension. Though I predicted the twist midway, the storytelling and execution were so gripping that it didn’t diminish the thrill in the slightest.
The dual perspective adds another layer of intrigue—the first half narrated by Millie and the second by Nina—allowing readers to see both sides of this unsettling household. It’s a fast-paced psychological thriller brimming with tension, secrets, and unexpected turns. The plot twist was exceptionally crafted, leaving me completely spellbound.

Overall, this is a brilliantly executed psychological thriller—dark, twisted, and full of unpredictable turns that will keep you on edge till the very last page. A highly addictive and satisfying read that every thriller lover should pick up!

My Rating:

5/5
