"Operation Bazooka" immerses readers into the gripping and harrowing actual tale surrounding the pursuit and capture of one of Uttar Pradesh's most notorious criminals, Shriprakash Shukla. Crafted by Rajesh Pandey, a former police officer and member of the UP STF then, the narrative offers a candid and enthralling depiction of the relentless efforts to apprehend this feared gangster in a high-stakes operation.

The narrative begins with a perplexing and ominous event: a man is ruthlessly assassinated, showered with an astonishing barrage of bullets in an upscale Lucknow neighbourhood. This atrocious crime sets off a high-stakes hunting, immersing the reader into a realm of crime, corruption, and bold criminal endeavours. As the narrative progresses, it ventures into the murky depths of Lucknow's criminal underworld, where Shriprakash Shukla's presence loomed large, even amid the corridors of prestigious prep schools. With meticulous detail, the book unravels the inner workings of Shukla's criminal empire, delving into how he navigated the legal system, evading capture for an extended period, and the profound fear he instilled within the community.

The highlight is that this marks the country's inaugural electronic surveillance unit deployed for such an operation. This pioneering use of technology underscores law enforcement's agility in pursuing justice, emphasizing the meticulous planning and precise execution that led to Shukla's apprehension. The thrilling aspect of this book lies in the fact that one of its authors, IPS Rajesh Pandey, was not just a writer but a central figure within the story. Pandey played a pivotal role as a member of the special task force responsible for the takedown of the infamous and violent gangster of Uttar Pradesh, Shriprakash Shukla, along with his entire criminal syndicate.

Readers get a glimpse into the realities of apprehending criminals in the pre-tech era. Or we can say the dawn of the technological age through this true crime narrative. The book's straightforward and accessible language ensures that even those new to the genre can follow along easily. The narrative is compelling, ensuring a fast-paced read that will captivate readers. The book is a must-read for those who enjoy true crime stories. Moreover, even if you typically lean towards thrillers rather than a real-life crime, "Operation Bazooka" promises an equally gripping and worthwhile read.
So, if I loved the book—yes, it's fast-paced, the language is easy, and engaging—then why did I give it a 4.5 rating instead of 5? Because I felt the narration could have been a bit smoother. At times, I found myself confused while reading certain lines or sentences. Since this is the author's debut book, we can surely overlook this aspect. So, grab it if you are a lover of crime thrillers.

My Rating:

4.5/5
