Christina's journey through personal relationships has been tumultuous, marked by 1.5 unsuccessful marriages (formerly wedded with a subsequent broken engagement). Undeterred, she declares her independence, vowing to focus on her fitness, maintain her popular Domestic Diva social media account, and collaborate with fellow empowered women on a home renovation show. The plot thickens when Christina's friends enlist the services of Buck McDermott as the show's contractor. Despite her steadfast commitment to the "No Man Plan," Christina finds herself drawn to Buck's rugged charm and playful banter. Yet, Buck harbours his own emotional barriers that need dismantling before he can embrace love. In this engaging tale, the duo navigates the challenges of their pasts, raising the question: Can they conquer their history and discover that elusive happily ever after?

Although the characters were intended to be in their forties, I perceived a disconnect as they exhibited moments of immaturity inconsistent with their age. Despite this, their chemistry and banter were enjoyable. However, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was lacking in Christina's portrayal, perhaps due to my preference as a health-conscious food enthusiast. Despite her efforts to maintain a diet, the abundance of carbs and sweets in her scenes seemed contradictory, leaving me questioning the authenticity of her commitment to a healthier lifestyle.

While not my personal preference, I didn't dislike it either. This book might be more appealing to romance enthusiasts, a group I don't particularly identify with. The language is accessible, and the narration is well-crafted. Although I initially found the beginning to be slow-paced, the story gains momentum around page 25-30 and maintains a swift pace until the end. I certainly recommend this book to readers who enjoy fast-paced, cute, and closed-door romance.

My Rating:

4/5
